A subject that frequently divides opinion is that of Past Lives. There are therapists who specialise in helping people to discover where "their" past lives where lived and "who" they were.
It is an area that requires clarification. First of all, have you had a previous life? The answer to this is no but your inner being may have had none, one or several. See Re-incarnation and Your Purpose For This Earthly Life.
As has been explained in Look Within, as you progress in your development you learn to connect with the inner being within you and are able to share more strongly in the memory of the skills that they have knowledge of.
However, the inner being cannot tell you of the context of those skills, no matter how diligent you are with allowing your connection to develop. As described in Look Within they have no memory of them.
Past Life Regression Therapy
With no memory to draw on it would be impossible for your inner being to supply you with any facts. If you have heard of Past Life Regression Therapy you may be feeling confused now and wondering how it works. Past Life Regression Therapy is a form of hypnotism and while under the influence of a hypnotic state your mind can supply many things. Over the course of a lifetime, you have seen, heard, read and experienced many things which will remain, often consciously forgotten by you in your sub-conscious memory. It is for this reason that hypnotism can be very successful in helping a suppressed memory to emerge.
There is no doubt that the majority of therapists who practice Past Life Regression Therapy sincerely believe in what they do and do so out of a sincere desire to help people. It is, however, something that is not provable and, for the reasons given above, not possible.
The most important question to ask yourself is why you wish to know about "your" past lives. What purpose would it serve to know where and how your inner being has lived before? Is it so that you can use the knowledge that was gained during past lives? If so, it would not serve you well. What use would knowledge of animal husbandry in the 16th century be to a computer programmer or train driver in the 21st century?
Is it in the hope of finding out that "you" were an important historical figure? What would you gain by this? You may not even like the person you found out about and how would that help you to live this life? Any knowledge from another lifetime would merely cause immense confusion during this one.
What is far more important is who you are in this life and the way that you choose to live it.
